Re: Are we meeting tomorrow? Uschi Klute 19 Mar 2019 15:19 EDT

Hi everyone,

Last week I took a closer look at the Users app again. I noticed some
things which I would like to discuss with you.
Should I list the points here in advance by mail?
Well, I'm just gonna list my points now ;-)
I have to admit that I haven't checked these topics in JIRA yet - maybe
they are already known phenomena.

1. the field 'Preferred contact' is mandatory now in the UI (not in the
JSON). No matter what I select there: there must be an e-mail address in
any case.
I think if "Text message" is selected, the field "Mobile phone" should
be set as required. When selecting "Mail" (i.e.: letter post) some
fields of a (primary) postal address should be mandatory.

2. Even after a logout, I get - after a new login - directly
back to the last screen called. Especially in the user context
this could be problematic.

3. in the user context there also is the auto-complete function. This
could be a problem, for data protection reasons. By the way, I also get
entries from previous login sessions.
Where is this information stored (cookies?): I think the previous
entries should be deleted before the new login can be made.

4. If I have the permission "Users: Can edit user profile", then
I can also change the username of other users. Since FOLIO at least
formally makes no difference between patrons and FOLIO employees
I can also change the user name of my colleagues - and the
can then no longer log on to the system.
As the username is taken for the system login, then the
field should not be editable without further ado. To do this, a
separate permission could be required. Alternatively: Usernames may not
be changed at all via UI.

I don't know what this is like in other library systems: in our ILS
(LBS/OCLC) you can't change an account afterwards (except of direct SQL
updates in the database). In other (Web) applications, it is mainly not
possible to change the login name.

5. upper/lower case for username: Obviously, it is not Upper/Case-sensitive.
If the username is "test", then I can use
- test
- Test
- TEST
as username for the login.

6. We have thought about how we can manage both users and employees in
the Users App.
How will you treat people who are both staff and patron? Would a patron
block (e.g. because of too much fines&fees) also prevent from work in
the system?

What about the expiry date? Does this refer to the patron account or to
the employee (e.g. in the case of a temporary contract)?

Have these questions been addressed in the User Management SIG before?
I'm sorry if I raise questions that you've already dealt with.

Many greetings
Uschi
