Thanks Uschi.
Sorry – looking at this document I’m a bit confused.
Is User Metadata (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/121RpsJNaewhQEKb7k58eNVIhZ7N9oSWowNRJGYjPJ2M/edit#gid=0)
valid ? Among other question in this document the field labeled ‘Address type’ (line 24 on tab 1) is not marked as ‘include in folio’. Not only is it necessary in and of itself, it is also listed as the determiner of permissions for all of the other elements
in the “Address (repeatable field group)”.
Thanks,
Andrea

yes, the Middle Name has been implemented since a long time:
If you have a look at the JSON schema
https://github.com/folio-org/mod-users/blob/master/ramls/userdata.json
you won't find a "Titles" field - but we do need this, absolutely.

Is this User Metadata doc still accurate?
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/121RpsJNaewhQEKb7k58eNVIhZ7N9oSWowNRJGYjPJ2M
- Middle name is listed as “include in FOLIO”
- There’s a question listed in the first name row as whether we want to collect a preferred name/nickname. Preferred name/nickname is not included in the doc.
- Honorifics are listed under Titles and the Title Values sheet. Listed as “Include in FOLIO”
- Suffixes are not listed but I seem to remember that coming up but couldn’t say when or in what context
There is also this doc:

this is the spreadsheet we worked with in the Data Migration Group.

Hi Filip,
Duke would consider the lack of these fields to be a block for go live. Whether that means the solution is adding a field to the user module or using custom fields, I don’t know. Is there a timeline yet for this feature’s development?
There’s an ongoing question too about whether custom fields would offer the functionality needed. Eg, I don’t want to just display a preferred name in the user app, I want it to be used in notices when it’s populated, maybe kept in certain audit trails, use it in our discovery layer, etc.
Best,
Erin

Hi folks,
If this discussion concerns the short term, please ignore this message.
If this discussion concerns the long term, and if only some institutions want some of the mentioned fields, this seems like an excellent candidate for the "custom fields" feature, where each institution could potentially adapt the fields that exist and/or appear, and how they behave (see an introduction to it here: https://discuss.folio.org/t/custom-fields-ux-iteration-1/1849). The feature is not yet in development, and as such is only a UX concept at present time. However, I just wanted to make you all aware of it so that you might keep it in mind for any discussions where applicable.
Please let me know if you have any questions, advice or ideas about the notion of custom fields.

There are no fields for them appearing on the UI. I don't know if that means they might still be there somewhere.

I think we should at least touch base about it. Are they missing from the record entirely? Those might be fields that are legal to leave blank, and they might not be populating by default.

Hi,
A colleague in the Resource Access SIG reports that a few important user name fields may be missing:
preferredFirstName, Middle Name, Honorific, and Suffix.
At Cornell, preferred names are really important, which may be true for other Unis as well. Middle Name is helpful, especially for many non-English names, and we use "Jr, III" etc. in Suffix. Honorific isn't so important to us, but it is for other institutions.
Has anyone else noticed that and, if so, should we discuss it at the next meeting?
Thanks,
Phil
