Hello Michelle and SC&A WG members,

Michelle: thanks for your note, and for your vote for forming an SC&A subgroup under the Metadata Management SIG. That was in fact the recommendation that came out of yesterday’s Zoom call, which (by the way) was attended by Sebastian Hammer and Peter Murray of Index Data and Mike Thuman of Arkivum. Our recommended focus: synchronizing metadata across different repository systems. Our hope: that we can eventually enlist galleries, museums, and other developers in this work under the FOLIO aegis.

Everybody: I’ll let Laura Wright (the convener of the MM SIG) know that we’d like to join as a subgroup, so consider this a call for interested participants. I’ve already had a couple of volunteers; feel free to contact me off-list if you’d like to be added to their number. Given the nearness of the holidays and the end of the year, I expect things won’t really get moving until January-February.

We also discussed possibly forming an SC&A integrations/interoperability subgroup under the FOLIO SysOps SIG, but that might be a SIG too far at this point. Still, let me know if you’re interested in that.

Finally, the November 12 Zoom call was the last SC&A WG call until further notice. We may resume in the new year and on a monthly schedule, but that’s up to y’all.

Best regards,

Aaron

Hi Aaron and other A&SC members,

I had to miss yesterday's Zoom call due to an appointment, but just wanted to jump in and say I think joining the Metadata Management SIG as a subgroup is a good idea for this group moving forward. I would think we'd want Archives & Special Collections metadata to fit nicely in with the system's metadata as a whole anyway, so it seems like a good way to make that more likely to happen. I was planning to start attending the MM SIG meetings this month regardless.

All,

The SC&A Working Group was on the agenda in yesterday’s FOLIO PC call. You can find a summary of the discussion in the call notes at https://bit.ly/2AX8nGh.

The PC members recognize that the SC&A community represents a good test case for expanding FOLIO’s purview beyond the usual ILS/LMS box. Basically, the question for us is: Do we want to spin up a separate SC&A SIG, or do we want to form an SC&A subgroup within an existing SIG or SIGs? The subgroup approach is already being used in the Metadata Management and Systems Operations and Management SIGs:

·         MM MARCcat Subgroup : https://wiki.folio.org/display/MM/MARCcat+Subgroup

·         SysOps Data Migration Subgroup : https://wiki.folio.org/display/SYSOPS/Data+Migration+Subgroup

Forming an SC&A subgroup within one or more SIGs might be a good way to keep momentum going in this area.

I’ll be dialing into Zoom on Monday, November 12 at 2:00 PM Eastern/1:00 PM Central. Feel free to join if you are interested in having SC&A development needs represented in an existing SIG or SIGs.

Best,

Aaron
