There’s also a good description of Epics, Features, and User Stories on this wiki page:

Cate Boerema has been working hard to get everything well-organized in Jira, now that the PO/developer teams are  growing so much. Generally one PO is responsible for the features within an Epic.

We are using epics to group together features by functional area.

Hi Joanne.  Thanks for asking!  An epic is a big chunk of work—it’s not an acronym, I just wanted it to standout.  Epics are used to organize work in Agile development.  You will see that we have epics for Fees/Fines, Loans, Requests, Acquisitions, etc.  We are using epics to group together functional areas.  A collection of user stories are usually tied to an epic.  For UXPROD we are using epics to pull together features.  Hope this helps…

Thanks,

Holly

Holly (or whoever),

What exactly is an “EPIC”?

Hi Reporting SIG!  I have answers for the three gap analysis spreadsheet questions from earlier today…

1)      The instructions should list all features that have been excluded.  For example, I don’t think the data lake is listed.  My mistake, everything is there.

2)      Acquisitions issues UXPROD-888, UXPROD-916, and UXPROD-924 are missing.  Others?  UXPROD-888 was tagged incorrectly and UXPROD-916 and UXPROD-924 were entered after the deadline.  We will fix this.  The good news is that the extract process works.

3)      The “Reporting: In-App Reports” EPIC only has 5 requests-related in-app reports.  Where is everything else?  The rest of the in-app reports are correctly linked to their functional areas (e.g. fees/fines, loans).  These 5 JIRA issues have been changed to be tied to the “Requests” EPIC.  The “Reporting: In-App Reports” EPIC will be removed from the spreadsheet.

The changes in item 2 and 3 won’t be reflected in the spreadsheet until it is reproduced.  The changes have been made in JIRA only.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thanks,

Holly
