The Knowledge Base at the Center of the Universe
Congratulations to Kristen Wilson on the publication of her ALA Library Technology Report, The Knowledge Base at the Center of the Universe! This Report analyzes the impact of knowledge bases on library management practices, traces the evolution of the knowledge base, provides context for knowledge base creation and maintenance, and explores areas of innovation including use in library services platforms, integration with external tools and services, and collaborative knowledge base projects.
In August, GOKb hosted a half-day workshop with electronic resources librarians from NC State, Duke University, and UNC-Chapel Hill to brainstorm challenges and potential solutions for electronic resources supply chain issues. The workshop participants provided creative and helpful suggestions for further areas of GOKb development. Next steps include a brief summary of the workshop findings and potential plans for new GOKb services.
We look forward to sharing with you the new e-books features and enhancements, based on the pilot project with libraries in the UK. Please look for registration information in late September or early October.
