Hello,

The FOLIO cataloging apps (Inventory and MarcCat) are still under development, but I can answer some of your questions based on what has been developed thus far.

  1. I believe this will depend on whether the implementation is individual or consortial. For an individual library implementation, yes, the records will be stored separately. The Inventory data model is roughly based on BibFrame and is format agnostic. So MARC record editing will be done in MarcCat (or another MARC editing tool).
  2. Z39.50 support is planned (considered essential by most early implementers).
  3. The inventory app is not a full cataloging tool, though local records can be created and edited there. Support for authorities control is also planned. MarcCat is based on WeCat (http://www.atcult.it/en/products/olisuite/) which has sophisticated searching, editing, and linking capabilities.

We plan to present a FOLIO Forum in the near future about the Inventory app (date not yet confirmed).

Best,

Laura
