And the proposal doesn’t have to be explicitly about FOLIO, but issues that are important to libraries. FOLIO can be highlighted as a community approach to investigation and solution…

Here is a suggestion for a proposal from Rachel. This is more Codex-themed:

Resource management re-imagined

FOLIO is a community collaboration to develop an open source library services platform. At its core, the FOLIO platform is built for innovation by fostering the participation of both vendors and libraries alike. The community now has come together to rethink how libraries manage their resources. The FOLIO platform as such brings together the management of electronic and physical resources under one roof.  But what are the fundamental principles that underlie resource management in FOLIO?

FOLIO resource management supports a single workflow to manage the life-cycle of both electronic and physical resources (e.g. for acquisitions, resource access, analytics, metadata management, etc.). Records for both electronic and physical records are stored in a single FOLIO domain model and record format called “Codex.”  Based on BIBFRAME principles, the Codex is a central repository of normalized records of disparate objects and formats that can be leveraged by other applications. What’s more, the Codex underlies the FOLIO approach of “referential cataloging.” In this model, FOLIO references master records in multiple formats that reside in one or more knowledge bases of either print or physical resources.

This panel will look at resource and metadata management in FOLIO.  Panelists will look at the metadata schema that underlies resource management in FOLIO. And panelists will discuss how FOLIO supports cataloging by ‘reference’ in order to re-imagine traditional workflows all together.

Good morning,

We won’t be having a meeting tomorrow because of the Codex discussion. I’ll see some of you there. Meanwhile, Charleston is accepting proposals for the 2017 conference, November 6-10: https://www.charlestonlibraryconference.com/call-for-papers/

Rachel Fadlon at EBSCO can help coordinate any submissions, so I’ve cc’d her on this email. Jesse Koennecke from Cornell intends to submit a proposal. It will cover:

If you are interested in submitting something, here are some ideas:

It might make sense to partner with Jesse. If you do want to submit something, please contact Jesse and Rachel. I don’t anticipate going to Charleston, but I can provide assistance to the development of a presentation. I will, however, be out next week, with inconsistent access to email, so I won’t necessarily be able to read over the proposal, although you are welcome to CC me.

Sorry about the late notice, this got dropped with all of the ALA activities.

Kristin
