I would think we’re talking about loan policy level. So for example, a standard loan, which is simply due on a date with no real due time (typically, effectively
this is a due time of 23:59:59 on the due date) would not need an offset.
But an hourly loan, such as a reserves item, would need an offset, potentially. So if a 2 hour loan item is loaned 1 hour before a service point closes, then
the loan due time is pushed to being due X minutes or hours after the service point opens the next morning, rather than being truncated to being due when the service point closes or made due when the service point is closed.
Sean, is that an accurate representation? If so, then my answer is yes, that the offset needs to be at the loan policy level not at the service desk level, since
that gives better flexibility.
Best,
David

Subject: RE: Modeling 'offset time' for Closed Lib. Due Date Mgt
Sean,
Just to clarify, by “Policy level” do you mean on the institutional policy level? So, for example, if we have 12 libraries in our institution, a Policy level
setting would apply to all 12 of them?
Just need to know before I can consult with my colleagues and give you an answer.
Thanks - Joanne

Subject: Modeling 'offset time' for Closed Lib. Due Date Mgt
Hi RA SMEs,
One issue that I'm following up on related to Loan Policies, is the requirement for FOLIO to allow staff to set an offset time under the following conditions:
- Loanable = Y
- Closed library due date management = Move to the beginning of the next open day
The requirement in the Loan Policy Metadata file is for an Opening Time Offset, which would allow staff to input a value of hours or minutes.
Before we go deeper into implementation issues, I wanted to make sure that the requirement is for this be set at the
Policy level, as opposed to setting a consistent Opening Time Offset, say, per service location.
I assume that the answer is yes - that there are individual policies that will require different opening time offsets, but just wanted to confirm that assumption.
If this is a topic better addressed in the RA-SIG meeting, please let me know and I'll try to get it on the calendar. Apologies in advance if this is a topic already covered prior to my coming on
board.
Thank you.
Sean
