Hi RA SIG! Last week UNAM hosted three FOLIO Days in Mexico. (The developers working on fees/fines are from UNAM.) UNAM did a presentation (in Spanish) about why they are collaborating on FOLIO by working on fees/fines. A recording
of the entire five-hour event is available at
http://webcast.unam.mx/?tribe_events=1er-encuentro-de-folio-en-mexico There is an introduction in Spanish by someone from UNAM, then Mike Winkler gives a plaque to UNAM to thank them for hosting FOLIO Days in Mexico, Mike then speaks for a bit, then Christopher
Spalding talks for awhile, and finally comes the collaboration talk. If you have never been to a FOLIO Day event you may want to listen to Mike and Christopher. Otherwise just speed ahead to 1:33 and listen to the talk about why UNAM is collaborating on
FOLIO.
During the first presentation on the recording I learned that UNAM has 135 libraries. At my weekly meeting with UNAM today, I asked them some questions about the size of their operation. I learned that all 135 libraries share one catalog.
They run Olive on 120 servers--each material type is on its own server. They have 8 million books, which I suspect are on more than one server, but maybe not. I wish we could communicate better so I could ask even more about this. Very interesting.
Best,
Holly
