Hello Everyone,

Agenda for Consortia SIG Wednesday morning:  Continue with Uxprod – 794 for cross tenant consortia.  Specifically:

  1. Uxprod–795, Complete discussion on having a transaction in two tenants when a patron has walked into a non-home library to borrow an item.  A few questions:
    1. What are we trying to solve by having this happen?
    2. What happens when the item being borrowed doesn’t exist in the home library?
    3. Is this to be recorded in the name of the patron in both places or only at the non-home library and a “library to library” transaction is created in the home library?
    4. How are usage stats handled?  Wouldn’t a library want walk-ins recorded differently from ILL?
    5. What should happen when the item is returned?
    6. What will the home and/or non- home library do in the case of overdue, lost, or missing items?
    7. Can this be handled in a simpler manner?
  2. Uxprod-797, Patrons can view loans and other account information for all consortia libraries online via a single account/login within a FOLIO instance, across FOLIO instances, and with non-FOLIO systems
    1. Is this done today?
    2. How critical is this to daily operations and patrons?  How often does this actually occur?
    3. If this is to be viewed in one place, this implies either federating (complicated in this case) or merging centrally and keeping in sync (complicated as well).  Should this be a FOLIO feature or a discovery feature?  Does this imply an API for external services?
  3. Uxprod- 798, Can load patron information from multiple sources (1+ per consortia member) with conflicts/errors (both across consortium members and with a single consortium member) reported for manual resolution
    1. How is patron data merged if federating once in a while is not acceptable?
    2. How would library from university A gain access to patron data from Library B from university B?
    3. What privacy issues will be faced?
    4. How does a library from a different university gain access to the SMS which is also probably different from the local university
  4. Uxprod-808, Patrons able to authn using multiple authn systems
    1. What does this mean?
  5. Uxprod-816, If item is returned at non-owning library location, library can configure (at the collection or service point level) how the return is handled: possibilities include automatically put in transit to owning library, set a temporary location, etc.
    1. I’m interested in how this fits with all of the above depending on what solution is chosen.  This may be answered once we get through questions 1 – 4.

Thanks!

Harry
