Hello Everyone,
Agenda for Consortia SIG Wednesday morning: Continue with Uxprod – 794 for cross tenant consortia. Specifically:
- Uxprod–795, Complete discussion on having a transaction in two tenants when a patron has walked into a non-home library to borrow an item. A few questions:
- What are we trying to solve by having this happen?
- What happens when the item being borrowed doesn’t exist in the home library?
- Is this to be recorded in the name of the patron in both places or only at the non-home library and a “library to library” transaction is created in the home library?
- How are usage stats handled? Wouldn’t a library want walk-ins recorded differently from ILL?
- What should happen when the item is returned?
- What will the home and/or non- home library do in the case of overdue, lost, or missing items?
- Can this be handled in a simpler manner?
- Uxprod-797,
Patrons can view loans and other account information for all consortia libraries online via a single account/login within a FOLIO instance, across FOLIO instances, and with non-FOLIO systems
- Is this done today?
- How critical is this to daily operations and patrons? How often does this actually occur?
- If this is to be viewed in one place, this implies either federating (complicated in this case) or merging centrally and keeping in sync (complicated as well). Should this be
a FOLIO feature or a discovery feature? Does this imply an API for external services?
- Uxprod- 798,
Can load patron information from multiple sources (1+ per consortia member) with conflicts/errors (both across consortium members and with a single consortium member) reported for manual resolution
- How is patron data merged if federating once in a while is not acceptable?
- How would library from university A gain access to patron data from Library B from university B?
- What privacy issues will be faced?
- How does a library from a different university gain access to the SMS which is also probably different from the local university
- Uxprod-808,
Patrons able to authn using multiple authn systems
- What does this mean?
- Uxprod-816,
If item is returned at non-owning library location, library can configure (at the collection or service point level) how the return is handled: possibilities include automatically put in transit to owning library, set a temporary location, etc.
- I’m interested in how this fits with all of the above depending on what solution is chosen. This may be answered once we get through questions 1 – 4.
Thanks!
Harry
